Moment of Sunshine Appeal
We have reached our target! Together with your support, we are getting light and vital health information to where it is needed most. Thank you.
You can still donate to have your Moment of Sunshine, as light is still needed in the fight against coronavirus. We are now building our Phase II approach.
SOLARAID’S RESPONSE TO THE VIRUS
The spread of the virus in Malawi and Zambia is putting incredible pressure on already vulnerable populations. Access to light, power and information has never been more important.
Too many health workers are forced to work in the dark. They need light and electricity to be able to care for people and stay connected in a fast moving situation.
Rural communities, meanwhile, struggle to access vital information that will help them stay safe.
SOLARAID RESPONDED THANKS TO YOUR SUPPORT
We partnered with the Ministry of Health to change this in both Malawi and Zambia, by helping in two ways:
1. Light and basic power to rural clinics
Supplying thousands of free solar products to the rural health clinics in both countries so doctors and nurses can safely treat patients when darkness falls. These products also have the power to charge mobile phones for essential ongoing communication about the spread of the virus.
2. Providing health advice to vulnerable communities
Our SunnyMoney team is using the large network we have built over many years of selling solar products to share official guidance about the virus. It is important that local people can share vital information within their own communities as fast as possible.
With your help, we raised an incredible £264,039 to get light to clinics and information to rural families. You hit that target and shared your Moment of Sunshine like these incredible supporters:
“Every morning the sun comes up, providing energy to light our way.”
“This makes so much sense, to improve the climate, health and education all together. And SolarAid is the sunniest charity I know of!”
“The sun is shining nearly every day at the moment and it is lovely to be in the garden and to listen to the birds. We should use this time to build a better world together.”
“Seeing and hearing about the fantastic work that charities such as SolarAid do 24/7 across the developing world.”
“Thank you for your great work, SolarAid continues to inspire me!”
“It is my small way of offsetting some of my carbon footprint. In the Covid-19 pandemic, people in rural Africa will have an extra tough time. Some light and power will help.”
Thanks to many kind supporters and match-funders, together we have made this possible.

Thank you so much to all of our wonderful supporters, for both donating and sharing your Moment of Sunshine.
