If you’re a UK taxpayer, Gift Aid allows us to claim an extra 25p for every £1 you donate – at no extra cost to you.

What is Gift Aid?

Gift Aid is a government scheme that allows SolarAid to reclaim the tax you have already paid on your donations.

This means your support goes further, helping us reach more families with clean, reliable solar light.

Important information

To qualify for Gift Aid, the amount of Income Tax and/or Capital Gains Tax you pay in a tax year must be at least equal to the amount of Gift Aid claimed on your donations.

If you pay less tax than the amount claimed, it is your responsibility to pay the difference.

Every £10 you give could be worth £12.50 with Gift Aid.

Gift Aid FAQs

Do I have to make a declaration with every gift?

No. You only need to complete a declaration once. It can cover donations you have made in the past four years and any future donations, unless you tell us otherwise.

Can you claim Gift Aid on all types of donations?

Gift Aid can be claimed on individual donations. Donations from groups, such as schools or churches, are not eligible unless each individual provides their name, address and postcode with a clear declaration.

What if I pay tax at a higher rate?

We can only claim back tax at the basic rate. You may be able to claim the difference through your tax return.

I am not a taxpayer, but my partner is. Are our gifts eligible?

Yes, but we need a separate declaration from the taxpayer. Please contact our Supporter Care team to arrange this.

What if I am a pensioner?

You may still qualify if you pay tax on a private pension, savings, or capital gains. You must have paid enough tax to cover the Gift Aid claimed.

How do I update or cancel my declaration?

If your circumstances change, please contact our Supporter Care team so we can update your record.

Can I withdraw Gift Aid from a specific donation?

Yes. Contact us and we will update your record accordingly.
