Next Step, Zambia

Every single home, school and health centre in Kasakula, Malawi, now has access to clean, reliable solar power. This is proof that our 100% mission can work – no one has to be left in the dark.

Now, we’re taking what we’ve learnt to rural Zambia, where the distances are greater, the terrain is tougher, and families are waiting for affordable light. With your support, we can get solar where no one else will go.

Help us take this next step, today.

Zambia is vast – three times the size of the UK – with communities separated by huge distances and tough terrain. In many rural areas, roads disappear into mud tracks or are washed away by floods.

For families living here, reliable power feels out of reach. Homes can be more than 20 kilometres apart, making it too costly for energy companies to provide a service. That leaves families in the dark, relying on candles or kerosene lamps which are dangerous, polluting and expensive.

No one else is going where we’re going. With your support, SolarAid can bring affordable, dependable solar power to the most remote corners of Zambia – places the grid may never reach.

Please help us reach our goal of £45,000 – enough to kick-start solar in Zambia’s hardest-to-reach villages.

"I hope for a bright future for my children"
Senzeni, farmer, Chimuntu village in Zambia

When Senzeni first brought home a small solar light, it gave her and her family (pictured above) a glimpse of the difference solar energy can make to her life.

“I used the light to see my cooking at night, and slept in the bedroom which I would avoid in the past [because] I was living in fear of snakes.”

But as Senzeni says, “Most of us can only afford to buy the smaller [lights] and can’t afford the bigger home systems.”
