It’s official, our BBC Radio 4 Appeal is the most successful of any charity for the whole of 2012! Whether donating, listening or sharing we’d like to thank you for your efforts. Luckily, best selling author and appeal presenter, Ian McEwan, agrees (see above). If you missed his brilliant broadcast then listen againhere

So, just how well did we do? Well, our Director of Fundraising and Marketing has totalled all donations received at over £40,000 – phenomenal! Many more donations and we could celebrate the best ever recorded total – gulp!

BBC Radio 4 Producer, Kate Howells, is delighted at the response to our appeal and thinks the power of an authentic voice helped immensely:

“Although to me there is always an element of mystery about what our generous listeners choose to give to, with SolarAid there is a brilliant match of presenter and appeal. Ian McEwan didn’t just write a novel called ‘Solar’ – in the process he did extensive research into alternative energy sources so his support for the charity is the result of a commitment based on curiosity and serious knowledge.

Also, what can be more powerful as an offering than light in darkness? It has a vivid symbolic as well as practical aspect. As a listener you can SEE the difference your donation could make.”

Remember, you can check out an exclusive recording of Ian McEwan talking about our work below. And it’s not too late to get involved. Simply donatre online, call (02072780400) or post a cheque to SolarAid at Unit 2, Third floor, Pride Court, 80 – 82 White Lion Street, London, N1 9PF, UK
