SolarAid strategy at a glance: our path to 100% sustained energy access

Across sub-Saharan Africa, hundreds of millions of people are still living without electricity. These are families, entrepreneurs, students and communities whose opportunities are limited every day by a lack of access to energy.

At SolarAid, we exist to help change this. Our vision is a world where everyone has sustained access to clean, renewable energy.

Today, we are sharing our refreshed 2025–2030 strategy, alongside our new Strategy at a Glance – a clear, accessible summary of how we will work towards this goal.

Moving beyond access

For years, progress has focused on simply connecting households. While vital, access alone is not enough. The future lies in sustained energy access – solutions that continue to work over time, can be repaired and maintained, and genuinely improve lives.

This shift is at the heart of our strategy.

Demonstrating what’s possible

Over the next five years, we aim to show that 100% sustained energy access is achievable at scale – especially in remote, underserved communities where the need is greatest.

Our role is to test, learn, and prove what works, and then partner with others to scale those solutions.

How we’ll get there

We will:

  • Develop and test new delivery models, such as Energy-as-a-Service and repair ecosystems
  • Partner with governments, NGOs, and businesses to scale effective solutions
  • Tackle sector-wide challenges like financing and maintenance through collaboration
  • Amplify community voices to influence policy and practice

At the same time, we will deepen our understanding of community needs and strengthen locally led enterprises.

A focused approach

We are prioritising depth of impact over organisational growth – remaining lean, collaborative, and evidence-driven while delivering value for money.

Why this matters

Universal energy access remains a major challenge, but progress is possible. We believe 100% sustained energy access is both necessary and achievable.

By demonstrating practical, scalable solutions, we can help accelerate change across the sector.

Looking ahead

Our Strategy at a Glance sets out the direction clearly, but delivery will depend on strong partnerships and continued learning.

No single organisation can solve this alone. That’s why we are committed to working in partnership and keeping communities at the centre of everything we do.

If we succeed, the impact will go far beyond SolarAid, helping ensure that everyone, everywhere, has access to clean, safe power.
