SolarAid first opened its SunnyMoney office in Zambia in 2008. Since then, SunnyMoney has been building a sustainable solar market in Zambia through the sale and distribution of pico-solar lights.

Only 14% of rural households in Zambia have access to electricity. Through SunnyMoney and innovative programmes like Light Libraries, first launched in January 2019, we will work to combat energy poverty and climate change, providing rural communities with economic opportunity and clean energy solutions that work until no one is left in the dark.

Derrick dreams of becoming a teacher

Powering St. Paul's Rural Mission

St. Paul’s Mission Rural Health Centre in Zambia has suffered for a long time from consecutive power cuts, especially during the rainy season. Healthcare worker have been forced to either stop their work or carry out procedures in the dark with the help of small handheld torches. As part of a larger pilot to Power Healthcare, solar products were delivered to St. Paul’s in December.

While today’s solar lights are lasting longer than ever before, we believe that everyone deserves the opportunity to have their solar lights repaired. Repairs help extend the life of products, reduce e-waste and ensure that people continue to benefit from access to safe, clean and renewable light. That is why we have been working to extend the life of solar lights in Zambia.
