SolarAid wins Energy Globe Award third year running

Emily Bellis

We are thrilled to announce that SolarAid has won the Energy Globe National Award for Malawi!

The Energy Globe Award was founded in 1999 by the Austrian energy pioneer Wolfgang Neumann and is one of today’s most prestigious environmental awards. All of the national winners were announced on World Environment Day (June 5th) and the presentation of the awards was recently held at the Austrian Embassy.

This marks the third consecutive year that SolarAid has won the award in recognition of our work to bring solar light to the poorest families in Malawi:

Over the last 11 years, SolarAid has provided access to solar lights for 1.5 million people across rural Malawi by selling the most affordable solar lights through a market-based model, working with schools and local entrepreneurs. But this is not enough.

United under our mission – ‘No one left in the dark’, we know that we need to go beyond ‘business as usual’. In 2019, we have been developing and launching new models, designed specifically to reach the poorest families – so that they too, can join the solar revolution.

We will continue to develop and scale bold innovations, like Light Libraries and Project Switch, to reach the 600 million people that currently do not have access to electricity. As always, we would not be able to continue reaching families with solar light if it wasn’t for you – our fantastic supporters. We would like to thank you for your ongoing support, this is our Energy Globe Award – and together, we are closer to ensuring that by 2030, no one is left in the dark.
