SolarAid and Solarcentury have been shortlisted in the National Fundraising Awards by the Institute of Fundraising under the 'best business-small charity partnership 2009' category. SolarAid is one of just three charities to make the shortlist!

The category looks for the best relationship between a small charity (under £1m income) and a business that provides benefit to the charity.

Since SolarAid was founded, Solarcentury has contributed employee fundraising, a 5% share of profits and pro-bono support adding up to around £150,000 in its first year.

The partnership has proven to be extremely innovative. Engagement is evident at all levels, from Solarcentury's CEO providing strategic planning advice, to graphic design and branding input by the marketing team and to solar system design work.

The partnership is ongoing and has been hugely successful from both sides. Staff motivation for volunteering is high in Solarcentury, and this volunteering has benefited SolarAid immensely.

Results will be announced at the awards evening on Monday 6 July, so watch this space!

SolarAid has received a much coveted Blue Peter badge after the children's BBC programme chose to feature a SolarAid Sunnymoney product on the show.

During a piece about solar technology, Blue Peter used SolarAid Kenya's 'Zebedee' lantern to demonstrate the versatility of solar. The product enabled the presenters to illustrate the development of solar technology and how it can light homes, even on a small-scale.
